Why you should be cautious with certificate sharing
In today’s digital world, it’s natural to want to celebrate your achievements online. Completing a qualification is something to be proud of, and sharing your success on social media can feel like a great way to showcase your hard work. Think before you share
While posting your certificate online might seem harmless, it can expose you to significant risks. Certificates contain unique, personal details including your name, qualification title, certificate number and awarding organisation branding. Unfortunately, these details can be used by individuals seeking to create fraudulent or imitation certificates.
Once an image of a certificate is publicly available, it may be copied, edited or reproduced without your knowledge. In some cases, this could lead to misuse of your credentials or even compromise the integrity of your qualification. If a certificate is duplicated or manipulated, it may be flagged during verification processes, potentially causing confusion or delay when you need to prove your achievement. In the worst cases, misuse could lead to concerns around validity.
Imagine applying for a job and losing out to someone who has used your certificate to falsely claim that they have the same qualifications as you.
